Streptosolen (Browallia) jamesonii is known to its friends as the marmalade bush. It’s a hardy yet totally beautiful evergreen shrub that’ll do you proud all year round.
If you give this marmalade bush a good home with plenty of sun, decent well-drained soil, and water when it’s dry it can flower most of the year.
Even though it’s kitted out with fiery 3-4cm trumpet-like flowers of yellow, orange, peach and gold on flexible stems this shrub is so low maintenance. A feed of decent fertiliser in spring will boost the bright flowers and if you’re feeling generous a layer of mulch around the base will keep the weeds away and moisture in. There’s no need to prune the branches unless you want to keep it smaller, but removing the dead flowers will encourage fresh new blooms.
You won’t be the only one that’ll love this absolute stunner because birds and pollinators adore this tangerine dream too.
